With the crises of the current political and economic order deepening every day, Fabians know that new ideas are as important as ever. That’s why we’ve decided to begin publishing a quarterly print and online magazine, dedicated to envisioning a better future and how to get there.
Each edition is going to have a theme, with a portion of the magazine’s content set aside for exploring it in depth. To help us decide what themes we should work with for the first four editions, we want to hear from our members.
You’ll see ten options below. We’ve deliberately kept them fairly broad to allow our writers plenty of scope for interpretation. We invite you to help us out by choosing the one you would most like to see the new magazine focus on in its first year.
And if you're interested in writing on these topics or anything else, please don’t hesitate to pitch an idea to [email protected]

Q: Are there any other themes you would like to see an edition of the Quarterly Review focus on? A: Yes, how to do a transition to a renewable economy. Perhaps start with a pilot project in a place like Collinsville. Create enthusiasm among this small town to receive large investments in their town to be a pilot study for how a transition to a renewable economy can happen a la Germany. Invest in retraining, sustainable industries, great schools and TAFE, infrastructure like cycleways, public pools and parks, organic farming and agriculture, make the place a hub and show how it’s done. People are clinging to coal for existential reasons, but if they are shown a bright future for the next generation with no black lung disease, no environmental degradation, not contributing to climate change, and creating industries for the future they will want that. It just takes guts to embrace it and put the money into it.
