Rebecca Huntley is a social researcher and commentator. Her most recent book is “How to talk about Climate Change’ (and if you wish to purchase that book use the promo code FABIAN10 for a 10% discount, via this link).  In 2019 Quarterly Essay published her essay “Australia Fair Listening to the nation”. She a Principal at Vox Populi Research. In this address Rebecca will summarise research on public opinion on privatisation as a guide to how progressives can or should communicate about these issues.

Meredith Hammat is Secretary of UnionsWA as position she has held since 2012. She is the longest serving Secretary of any national, state or territory union peak body in Australia. She had led union anti-privatisation campaigns in WA through WA state elections in 2013 and, with notable success, in 2017.  Meredith is a Fabian and author of the Fabian Essay “A Living Wage” published in 2019.  Meredith will draw on her campaign experience to discuss how action against privatisation might best be undertaken.

Eva Cox is the Patron of Australian Fabians and lead a Fabians National Board project on Privatisation.  Eva has been an academic, a political advisor, consultant, teacher, researcher and welfare advocate over the past decades. She taught research, advocacy and policy at the University of Technology Sydney. In 1995 she delivered the ABC Boyer lectures on a Truly Civil Society, which raised the importance of social capital as the trust glue that holds societies together. Eva will introduce the topics and speakers and chair proceedings includes for the Q & A session.
