The coronavirus pandemic presents many challenges for local government. While local governments themselves are complex medium-sized businesses experiencing many of the same challenges as other small to medium businesses, they are also often the first line of connection to the communities they serve. During the coronavirus pandemic, local governments have been enlisted to enable and enforce the federal and state government’s restrictions. On top of that, many of our essential services are delivered by local councils, and often involve a high degree of interaction with vulnerable members in our communities through their provision of services such as public health and aged care; meals on wheels; community services and waste management.

Join the NSW Fabians on the 8th of September to hear from Linda Scott about the top progressive policy priorities in local government and the unique opportunities and challenges that coronavirus has created.

Bio: Linda Scott is a City of Sydney Councillor, first elected in 2012 and re-elected in 2016. She is also the elected President of Local Government NSW, a regular guest on Sky News and a committed advocate for the public good. A strong supporter for reforming the Australian Labor Party, Linda won Labor's first ever community preselection, where over 4,000 people elected her to the Labor's candidate for Lord Mayor of Sydney in the 2012 NSW Local Government Elections.
