Anthony van den Broek is a concert pianist and educator based in Sydney, NSW. He is a long-term member of the Labor Party and has served on the NSW Branch and Executive of the Fabians since 2020.
Anthony cut his teeth in student politics in the mid-1990s and early 2000s and worked for the undergraduate student union at the University of New South Wales as Managing Editor of Publications and later as Chief Editor and Publications Manager at the Sydney University Postgraduate Representative Association - a divisive period in student politics that saw the gutting of higher education funding and voluntary student unionism introduced.
His passion for education advocacy and equitable access to learning stems in part from his experience as the first in his subsistence farming family to attend and graduate from university, and from his work as a teacher who witnesses daily the transformative impact of education.
Anthony continues to work in education and cultural advocacy and believes deeply in a fair and equitable society. He believes that the role of association is essential to progressive values and movements. He continues to pursue these objectives with his colleagues in the Fabians and across the broader Labor movement.
