Expressions of Interest are now invited for this intensive three day in-person training in Sydney that will run over the January long weekend in 2026 i.e. Saturday 24th, Sunday 25th and Monday 26th. The course is directly based on the leadership and organising practices developed by Marshall Ganz of the Harvard  Kennedy School. The video below provides an outline by Ganz on these practices covered in the course. This is a highly regarding program for progressive organisers and leaders that has been applied in Australia and globally by member-based organisations such as unions, progressive political parties, student organisations, environment, community and other civil society groups. Our lead trainer for this course is Shay Leighton, a former Harvard Teaching Fellow under Ganz. He is also an experienced union organiser and founder of Tough Guy Book Club. Phil O'Donoghue is also one of our trainers and the course coordinator. He has a long history of work for unions and as an ALP campaigner and campaign trainer. This course is co-hosted by Australian Fabians (NSW and WA Branches) together with National Labor Students and other progressive student groups as well as TrainLab, the WA Labor Training Network.

Leadership is a skill that can be taught - to develop it requires time, energy and commitment. As part of your application we ask you to certify that you will be available across these three days - this is necessary for your own learning and that of other group members.

The course fee will be $80 for non-waged and $120 for waged. An Equity and Diversity Fund, donations towards which can be made here, has been created to assist those who cannot meet course or related costs. Applications for fee or related assistance can be made by email to philip.o'[email protected]. To enrol please complete your details below.
