Terry Hampson was a long term Fabian and active environmentalist most well known for his successful advocacy to secure World Heritage listing for Fraser Island. He was born in Allora on the Darling Downs, Queensland in 1935 and died aged 79 in 2014. A long term member of the ALP, which he joined in 1965, he served as Queensland State Secretary from 1998. In 2001 he became a member of the Order of Australia for his contributions to environmental conversation and politics.

In his honour the Queensland Branch hosts an annual dinner in his name.
