This two-day weekend course applies the leadership and organising practices developed by Marshall Ganz based on his experience as a union, party political and civil rights organiser and campaigner as well as his long tenure at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government (for an overview see: https://youtu.be/dLl3Tm3g4og). The recent New York City Mayoral election win by Zohran Mamdani was based on these practice. We're fortunate to have Shay Leighton, a Harvard Teaching Fellow (2024-2062), working with Marshall Ganz as our lead trainer.
The course will run from 10am to 5:30pm on Saturday 26th September and 27th September. Attendance on both days is required.
Note: There are fees for course of $120 for waged, $80 unwaged. This cost will cover catering. A case can be put for a full or partial waiver for hardship reasons by email to the Course Coordinator, Philip O'Donoghue, Course Coordinator/Trainer at philip.o'[email protected]. Philip can respond to any questions generally about the program. Donations to facilitate equity and diversity places in the course are also welcome and can be made online here.
This is structured, intensive training, requiring pre-reading and work in small groups led by a trainer-coach. Places are limited to 20 as we need small group coaches at a ratio of one to five. Priority will be given to members of SA Fabians, you can join here. The course is akin to a train the trainer program, including how to coach others in way that solve campaign and organising problems.
