Referendum Reform – Fixing a broken system

Wednesday - 19 February, 2025 - 06:00 PM

My Beer Dealer - Fortitude Valley, Australia

A failed system for constitutional referenda is failing Australia. We'll have a chance to socialise and have an open discussion from 6-7pm. Then Martin Falcongreen will present on Referendum Reform, which will be broadcast via Zoom. The case for reform is clear following the comprehensive defeat of the Voice referendum. Australia's success rate across our 45 national referendums sitting at just 17%. Martin will put forward the case for an Abstain mechanism, while maintaining Australia’s valued system of compulsory participation. Martin is a Fabians Queensland committee member and a long-term, active member of the Australian Republic Movement. The difficulties the movement is currently facing has brought into focus the need for systemic reform, before further constitutional change can be achieved. To RSVP please compete your details below, following which you will land on a payment page - Fabian member are asked to contribute $10, (also the cost for Zoom) and non-members are asked to contribute $15.
