Our COVID19 Response - Australian Fabians
22 March, 2020

Our COVID19 Response

We would like to acknowledge the significant impact that the coronavirus (COVID-19) is having on communities and individuals across our nation. Our thoughts go out to those who have been impacted by this crisis.

At the Australian Fabians, we are taking the advice of the Australian and State Governments on the appropriate steps to manage our volunteers and members through this period.

As a movement we have a role to play in a space where our community will be isolated in some way shape or form.

So we are taking the approach to build on our community and use that community to provide not only hope - but debate and thought.

What does this mean for Fabian events?

As I am sure you are aware, the Prime Minister has announced that authorities are advising against organised non-essential gatherings of 500 people or greater from Monday, 16 March. Subsequently, the Prime Minister announced a ban on non-essential indoor gatherings of 100 people or greater.

Until advised otherwise,

  • All Fabian events will continue online and be offered across the nation.
  • We will be ceasing all in-person events.
  • All events will be free.

This will present a large opportunity for our movement, to knock down walls and barriers though debate and great discussion no matter where you are and how you may be impacted by COVID-19 you will be able to join in a discussion or debate.

If you will be joining one of our upcoming events, have a quick look at this video to see how easy it will be to join.

Moving events online will enable our teams to keep delivering their planned events.

What does this mean for Fabian Membership Fees?

We understand that some members of our movement, will be facing a tough few months. Our thoughts go out to them, which is why any member who can not renew their membership because of COVID19 will be able to put their fees on pause, no questions asked.

This in first instance will apply to members who are renewing between the periods of 1 March - 1 June. Members seeking to apply this pause of fees should email membership@fabian.org.au to speak with Kevin and the team.

We are also dropping New Member Fees to only $5 for the next 12 months. If you know a non member, ask them to Join online here. Because building an active community is what is going to bring us though this.

Further information about COVID19:

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness. Symptoms range from a mild cough to pneumonia. Some people recover easily, whilst others may get very sick very quickly.

Read more about the health updates here.

We are going to be trying new ways of meeting, debating and discussing - we will innovate in this space together, so bear with us.

I am proud of our movement and really look forward to seeing what we can achieve together in an online space.
